Fair Trade – Good for People & for the Environment

Not to be confused with “Free Trade”, Fair Trade is an alternative approach to conventional internation

al trade that aims to improve the livelihood of artisans and workers by paying a fair price for their products. A fair price takes into consideration the needs of the workers who produce the product, not just market trends or world trading prices which can fluctuate dramatically. It means workers know the price they will get for a product, they get paid on time and the price remains consistent giving them more long-term security which in turn allows them to invest in their children’s education and more environmentally sustainable practices like organic farming.

Fair Trade works to protect human rights for workers in developing countries by promoting social justice and economic security, particularly for women. Fair Trade also delivers environmental advantages in developing countries by promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices, many products are farmed organically or use recycled products.

Fair Trade products are certified by the International Fair Trade Association (www.ifat.org) so you can be sure the product is genuine.  Just look for this logo.
